ACG Sunderland to offer international university entrance testing

Students at ACG Sunderland will have better access to the world’s top universities since the school has been accepted as a fully registered centre to offer admission examinations run by Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing.

ACG Sunderland can now offer students the opportunity to sit, on site:

  • Entrance Testing for the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge.
  • BMAT – Biomedical Admission Test. This is used by many medical schools around the world including the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Imperial College, University of Leeds and Leiden University Medical Centre.
  • TSA – Thinking Skills Assessment. This is currently used for entry to a wide range of undergraduate courses, including Economics, Engineering, Politics, and Psychology at University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, UCL and Stockholm School of Economics.
  • Test of Mathematics for University Admission. This test is currently taken by students applying to undergraduate Mathematics and related courses. Leading institutions that use the test include Durham University, the University of Warwick, the University of NottinghamLancaster UniversityCardiff University, the University of Sheffield, the University of Southampton and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Campus Deputy Principal Lawrence Stephens said the new status as a registered testing centre would bring an increased awareness to students of the international opportunities available to them. He expected up to 10% of next year’s Year 13 student cohort to sit one or more of the exams on offer.

Having the opportunity to easily sit examinations to access the world’s top universities in surroundings they are used to, was a huge benefit, he added.

“We are a closed centre, which means we only offer these assessments to our own students, at our school, and do not take candidates from other schools. This gives our students the best chance of success; yet another advantage of studying at Sunderland!”
