ACG Schools: What’s in store for 2019?

Our schools had a brilliant year in 2018. We saw strong roll growth, excellent academic results and an ever-increasing number of students getting involved in sports, arts, leadership and other extra-curricular activities.

Clarence van der Wel, CEO of Schools and Early Learning, reviews 2018 and outlines plans for 2019 as the group transitions to ownership by global premium schools group Inspired Education.

How was 2018 for ACG Schools?

Our schools had a brilliant year in 2018. We saw strong roll growth, excellent academic results and an ever-increasing number of students getting involved in sports, arts, leadership and other extra-curricular activities.

In key staff appointments, Thea Killian joined us as principal at ACG Tauranga. Thea is a respected educationalist with a strong interest in student wellbeing and community. She joined a team of principals and senior leaders who I believe are among the best educators in New Zealand.

We opened a new preschool on the ACG Tauranga campus and saw our first pre-schooler, Áine Kelly, transition to the primary school under the care of our outstanding preschool staff.

We continued to invest in our facilities. ACG Strathallan has a new cafeteria and upgraded tennis courts, while ACG Parnell College has a new-look cafeteria.

What’s in store for 2019?

This year for the first time, our schools will be educating more than 3,000 students. With this growth we remain committed to our focus on providing personalised education, tailored to the individual.

ACG Parnell College has expanded to open a new pre-University Senior Campus in the former Maori TV building in central Newmarket, offering up to 500 students in Years 12-13 a choice of the International Baccalaureate or Cambridge International curriculums.

In 2019, we will also open an ACG Parnell preschool, allowing us to provide families with a continuous education from infancy through to Year 13.

Last year we announced that ACG Schools will join the Inspired global network of schools. The Inspired group consists of more than 40 premium schools educating more than 30,000 students around the world. Like ACG, it is a co-educational, independent schools group, which aims to help students achieve their maximum potential in a nurturing, progressive academic environment.

The focus is on identifying and developing the unique individuality and talents of all students, building their confidence and equipping them to take on the world with the skills and self-assurance to ensure success.

Inspired’s vision and values are closely aligned to those that have underpinned the growth and development of our schools and we are excited to be joining them.
